Description
GENOTROPIN® 36 IU (12 mg), powder and solvent for injectable solution
The active substance of the medicine is somatotropin (human growth hormone, recombinant DNA). After reconstitution, each milliliter of injectable solution contains somatotropin 5.3 mg or 12 mg, corresponding to somatotropin 16 IU, respectively, 36 IU (international units).
The excipients are: the previous compartment (with powder) – glycine, mannitol, anhydrous sodium dihydrogen phosphate, anhydrous disodium hydrogen phosphate; back compartment (with solvent) – meta-cresol, mannitol, water for injections.
After reconstitution: glycine (aminoacetic acid), mannitol, anhydrous disodium dihydrogenphosphate, anhydrous disodium hydrogenphosphate, meta-cresol, water for injections.
1. WHAT IS GENOTROPIN AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR
Genotropin belongs to a group of drugs called somatotropins; somatotropin from Genotropin is obtained by DNA recombination technique on Escherichia coli bacterial cultures. The structure of somatotropin is identical to that of the human growth hormone secreted by the pituitary gland.
Genotropin is available in cartridges with two compartments. The anterior compartment contains powder with somatotropin. The rear compartment contains solvent. After dissolving the powder in the solvent, each cartridge contains somatotropin 5.3 mg or 12 mg in one milliliter of injectable solution.
A box contains 1 or 5 bicameral cartridges.
Somatotropin stimulates growth, influences metabolism and the secretion of other hormones in the body.
In children, Genotropin is indicated for the treatment of growth disorders due to insufficient growth hormone secretion, growth disorders associated with Turner syndrome or chronic renal failure. It is also used for the treatment of children with a lower birth weight than that corresponding to the gestational age, who did not grow properly until the age of 4 years or more. Also, Genotropin is indicated for children with Prader-Willi syndrome, to improve growth and body composition.
In adults, Genotropin is indicated as replacement therapy in case of marked insufficiency of the growth hormone.
